Throughout India, Durga is worshiped and considered as the goddess of eternity and magnificent power. This picture depicts a bronze statue of 15th Cent AD from Orissa India, Goddess Durga killing the buffalo Demon Makisha. Durga, the fierce form of the great goddess is an amalgam of all the energies of the gods, therefore she is the supreme power. The king of the Demons Makhisha appears in the form of buffalo. When the head is cut off, Makhisha assumed human form. This beautiful sculpture is placed in the Asian Collection section in The British Museum, London, UK.
துர்க்கை அசுரர் தலைவன் மகிஷனை வதம் செய்யும் அற்புதக்காட்சி இது. இங்கிலாந்தின் லன்டன் பிரித்தானிய அருங்காட்சியகத்தில் இந்தச் சிற்பம் ஆசிய அரும்பொருட்கள் தொகுதியில் காட்சிக்கு வைக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது. 15ம் நூற்றாண்டு சிற்பமான இது இந்தியாவின் ஒரிஸா மானிலத்திலிருந்து கொண்டுவரப்பட்ட ஒரு சிற்பம். கலை நுணுக்கம் நிறைந்த இந்தச் சிற்பம் துர்க்கையின் மாபெரும் சக்தியை வெளிப்படுத்தும் வகையில் காட்டப்படுவதாக வடிவமைக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது.
