Buddha Shakyamuni - This damaged statue is a rare piece of art work. It's found in the eastern part of India in Bihar state in the Patna District. The cause for the damage is unknown. Buddha is also called Shakyamuni meaning a sage of the Shakya clan. This statue shows the most typical Buddha form, seated in meditation. Buddha abandoned his princely life to seek a way to escape the cycle of death and rebirth and in this pose he calls the earth to witness his successful resistance to the temptations. This status is a dated about 50 -1100 AD. Its a Victoria and Albert Museum collection, originally given by the architectural association.
